MEET MARTIN
Artist Profile
Martin Speight is a former professional cricketer and currently Cricket Professional and Director of Hockey at Sedbergh School in Cumbria.
Art is a hobby that has been with me all of my life. I used to spend hours sitting on the floor at home as a young boy drawing. It relaxed me, it made me feel happy, and it still does now.

Immediately after I graduated I went back to play cricket for Sussex. At first I was twelfth man for the 1st team and whilst sitting in the pavilion at the Saffrons, Eastbourne, one sunny day whilst Sussex fielded, I started drawing the town hall across the ground on a brown envelope. I was just sketching, keeping an eye on the cricket, mixing the two things I loved. Tony Pigott, Sussex’s opening bowler walked off at tea and commented on the sketch. He asked me if I did much drawing and painting and everything took off from there...

Over the years I have had many exhibitions and I am delighted to be able to share my artwork with you on my website.
